Welcometo The Rising Sun, Sheffield

The pub is currently closed for eating & dining in until National Lockdown is lifted, around the 15th February. We will update here as and when we have more information on reopening.

Coronavirus Updates for Customers

We are recognised as a Safe Pub by Cask Marque and are also a Good to Go accredited venue, subject to unannounced spot checks to ensure our compliance with Covid Secure procedures.

5th January

Following the announcement from the Government last night, we now know that we are unable to operate as a pub until at least the 15th February. Although not completely clear, current guidance suggests that we are no longer permitted to sell take out alchohol by any means other than delivery. We are awaiting further clarification on this, but in the meantime, Abbeydale Brewery are continuing with their home delivery service of cans and mini-kegs over at www.abbeydalebrewery.co.uk/shop. So, if you feel like ditching Dryanuray in light of this news (no judgement from us), they'd love you to pop an order in. Supporting the brewery also helps to support us here at The Rising Sun.

In the meantime we are grateful to hear more grants are in the pipeline to help us with our overheads, which still need to be paid whether we are open or not, and of course we continue to support our staff, whose resilience over the last year remains inspiring.

1st December

We are pleased that the pub will be able to reopen as a shop under tier 3 restrictions, resuming on 2nd December. The pub shop will be open 7 days a week and the onerous clause that was in place during National Lockdown requiring pre-orders of alcohol has been removed. Although we would very much have liked to have been able to re-open for drinking & dining in over December we will work with what we have to continue to bring great beer to the people of Sheffield! Keep an eye on our social media pages on Facebook & Twitter for regular updates on available products, especially for our range of christmas gift boxes & hampers.

We will of course continue to implement & review all our previous COVID secure systems so please follow the signage in the pub during your visit and the staff will of course be on hand to help. It is important to note that consumption of any products on the premises is absolutely not permitted under the Tier 3 restrictions.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support, it icontinues to be so important to us small, local businesses during what would usually be our busiest time of the year.

5th November

As we enter the second national lockdown, we have taken the decision not to offer take out beers this time round and instead allow our team to take some time to rest and recuperate from the demands of the last few months, which have asked an awful lot of them.

Please keep checking back for updates both here and on our website, as we will keep the situation under review, but if you have a hankering for beer in the interim, we can thoroughly recommend popping an order in at www.abbeydalebrewery.co.uk/shop

In the meantime, we offer our heartfelt thanks to all of our customers for their unwavering support as we've navigated our way through re-opening, the rule of 6, tier 2, quickly followed by tier 3 and now back into lockdown. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you all back once again as soon as we can.

The Rising Sun team.

23rd October

First, a huge thanks to all our staff who have worked tirelessly to keep you safe throughout these most difficult and stressful of times.

Also, huge appreciation for our customers who have supported us through closure, social distancing, yellow safety tape, track and trace, drinking outside in October, last orders at 9:30 and those who have joined in from home with collections and our new home delivery. You're the reason we do all this and we would be nothing without you.

For the remainder of the week we're going to continue trading as we were, for food and drink, both of which we'll also happily deliver to your door. On Saturday and Sunday though, this means you'll need to order a substantial meal if you want to enjoy any alcohol on the premises, in line with the new tier 3 guidance. We will sadly be unable to host the quiz on Sunday.

From Monday 26th October, we will only be open as a shop & take away, so we can still serve your drinks, but to enjoy at home. We will also be opening up our kitchen and our delivery service on Friday and Saturday evenings, so on those nights we will happily continue to bring the pub to you.

We feel this will allow us to strike the right balance between looking after the physical and mental health of our staff, as well as their financial interests, and also allow us to keep the business ticking over until such time as we can return to something approaching a sustainable in-house offering.

Keep an eye out for further updates on our opening times and offerings, and we hope to be fully open again before long.

In the meantime we hope to see as many of you as possible for takeout, and stay safe.

Love, the Rising Sun team.
