The Rising Sun, Fulwood are looking for a strong Head Chef who can make the most of this busy Gastropub, putting their own stamp and a strong culture to the kitchen.

- £2.4k / year achievable bonus based on GP and kitchen audits and a further bonus for 5* EHO rating

The Rising Sun has been owned by Abbeydale Brewery (SIBA Business Awards Employer of the Year 2025) since 2005. In October 2024 the business made history by becoming Employee Owned, meaning all staff are effectively co-owners of the business.
The pub has an excellent local beer offering, but as a progressive venue also a fantastic range of guest beers, quality wine and fine spirits. We balance this with our high-calibre food offering and our clientele appreciate well-executed gastro classics, as well as high quality modern food. We were awarded CAMRA Sheffield Pub of the Year 2022 and Pub of the Year Sheffield West 2023 and 2025.

The Job Role
You would work directly with the highly experienced General Manager and be expected to create your own menus that fit within the ethos of the venue – we’re proud of our pub roots, so there will always be a need for elevated British classics alongside specials that allow you to show your creativiy. You would be expected to bring enthusiasm and a passion for food to truly make your mark on the place. Attention to detail and meticulous organisational skills are also highly important.
Key skills we’re looking for:
- Experience working at Head Chef level for a minimum of 2 years
- Immaculate kitchen hygiene and strong allergen awareness with a bonus for 5* inspection.
- In depth knowledge of implementing and following Food Safety Management Systems
- Menu planning to achieve GP targets and conduct weekly stock takes to monitor this
- Managing Employees – this is a senior role and you will be expected to develop and support your team, training and coaching your chefs to produce consistently great results and manage staff rotas (including budgeting) and holidays
- Staff support – we want our staff to be happy and fulfilled at work and we care about their personal development. We provide ongoing training & development and have full support in place to assist with HR issues
- Ability to work well alongside the current management team to deliver an excellent dining experience – it’s a team effort requiring strong communication and co-operation from everyone
- Existing Food Safety level 3 qualification would be a bonus, but this will be provided for the right candidate
Hours & Salary
Standard working week is 45 hours – which we do not need or expect to be exceeded but any overtime is paid.
