Al Fresco Beer Garden Art Exhibition

Welcome to our first ever art exhibition! Whilst we regularly dress our internal walls with art from local artists which are available for purchase by the public, we are excited to announce our first ever outdoor art exhibition.

Featuring works from 4 local artists, the exhibition will be open to the public from 12pm on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August up until 5pm, with the opportunity to purchase some artworks directly.

The artist being showcased are:

Michael Foster (Foster_M) – Micheal was a Sheffield painter who went under the street art moniker of Foster_m. Though the street art scene gave him his start in the 80’s his talent propelled him into a career in fine art influenced heavily by the people and places that he encountered in a very tough and unforgiving upbringing. Unfortunately “Fozz” is no longer with us having passed away a little over a year ago. Fortunately a vast body of work survives . He was a prolific and widely collected artist and we are fortunate enough to be able to show some of his work here.

David Naylor – David is a Peak District landscape artist who creates immersive oil paintings to capture the rugged beauty of the Derbyshire and Sheffield countryside. A 1976 graduate of Chesterfield College of Art, Naylor spent decades working in the local art and framing business before co-founding the Derwent Wye Fine Art gallery. His current creative process relies on translating photographs taken by his wife, Diane, into vivid canvas works that emphasize the positive impact of nature on mental health. Deeply committed to philanthropy, he regularly exhibits his work throughout Sheffield and donates proceeds from his art sales to support the Weston Park Cancer Charity.

David Ian Allison – David might be described as an abstract landscape artist but this would not be entirely correct. David draws on his experience of a place, real or imagined, but the resulting painting isn’t necessarily just the contours or textures of the landscape but the experience of living within that place. In this the painter creates a place of solitude for the viewer ( or indeed the painter) to exist without outside distraction. Perhaps intangible like a dream half remembered where the viewer is left to fill in the gaps and imagine their own experience in that place.

George Cunningham – George was a beloved, self-taught Sheffield artist who began painting seriously at age 48 after a career in the city’s traditional cutlery trade. He was renowned for his nostalgic, highly detailed oil and watercolour paintings that captured the vibrant spirit of working-class Sheffield. His panoramic street scenes, bustling local shopping junctions, and iconic, atmospheric winter landscapes serve as a cherished historical record of 20th-century Yorkshire life. George was also once a patron of The Rising Sun.

All proceeds from the sale of works by David Naylor will go to Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August // Private Viewing 11am (Invitation Only) // Public Viewing between 12pm and 5pm // Free Admission

CHILDREN’S CHARTER

Under the licensing objectives (Licensing Act 2003) we are required to take steps to protect children from harm on our premises. In order to do this we operate a Children’s Charter. We request that under 16’s who are not dining please vacate the premises by 7:30pm, and those that are dining by 9pm.

We also ask that children remain sat at a table with a responsible adult at all times, and are not seated in the bar area. Please do not allow children to play in the car park or climb on the car park wall.

We regret that we cannot serve children directly at the bar, even for soft drinks and snacks.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

MONTHLY CHARITY QUIZ

Running every last Sunday of the month, a twist on our regular Sunday quiz feature.

Times are tough for us all and charities are feeling the pinch. We are wanting to enable our customers to help us give back to those that do so much to help others and so we have launched our new monthly charity quiz. The entrance fee for these special quizzes will be £2, with 50% going to the charity nominated by you, our customers. With each entry you will be given a slip to allow you to nominate a charitable organisation of your choice for the next month, this will be drawn at random at the end of the quiz by the Quiz Master.

We hope you can join us and thank you in advance for your support.

QUIZ NIGHTS

EVERY WEDNESDAY & SUNDAY

Our popular quiz nights run twice every week and cost £1 per person to enter, with beer & wine prizes to be won. On Sunday we host a Noughts and Crosses bingo style quiz – a favourite with our customers, as you don’t need to have all the answers to stand a chance of winning. You can also purchase a raffle ticket for a £1 for a chance to crack our safe and win the cash prize contents. Wednesday’s quiz takes on a more traditional format for those that relish a challenge. Quizzes start at 8:30pm and last until around 10pm.

FOOD & DRINK

AT THE RISING SUN

The Rising Sun is a welcoming community pub in Fulwood, Sheffield, run by Abbeydale Brewery since 2005. Award-winning and CAMRA-recognised, we serve a wide range of Abbeydale beers, rotating guest ales, ciders, wines, spirits, and low/no alcohol options.

We’re family and dog-friendly, with a spacious beer garden and cosy covered areas. Our seasonal menu highlights British produce from local suppliers and is served 7 days per week. Food is served throughout the venue and canine companions are welcomed (and encouraged) in both the pub and conservatory, but the Dining Room is dog free for our guests who are less comfortable with dogs.

On Sunday’s we serve a tailored menu featuring our ever popular roasts, we strongly recommend booking in advance as we cannot guarantee tables will be available on the day. Roast dinners are available on a first come first served basis, so the earlier you dine the more chance there is of us having a full compliment of roast options to offer you (other menu dishes are available).

Sample Menus

Changes are sometimes made to our menus to allow us to work with the freshest produce. Due to this, some of our menus will at times appear here as ‘Sample Menus’, which indicates that some dishes may vary. Menus available in the pub itself will always reflect the day’s offerings.

Speak to one of our team on 0114 2303 855 or you can make a reservation anytime by clicking the book a table button located at the top of the screen. WhatsApp bookings number: 07761 656 742. Please provide your name, number of guests, email address and if you would like a dog friendly table.
